Playmats and XP Decks Are about to Fulfill!
about 4 years ago – Tue, Feb 25, 2020 at 08:35:38 PM

In our last update we gave you a sneak peek at the new Numenera playmat. Here it is again:

And here’s the new XP Deck!

Both of these items are reaching our warehouses in the next day or so. And within a few days of that, we’ll begin fulfillment. If these items are among your rewards, keep your eye open for your fulfillment email!

Voices of the Datasphere Is Headed to Press

While those two items were in production, we’ve been busy on the next titles in the pipeline. In fact, the first hardcover funded by this campaign, Voices of the Datasphere, is in proofing now. It’s just a couple of weeks from its press date. This book is looking fantastic, and is filled with mind-blowing concepts, cool places to visit, and amazing creatures, cyphers, and options for your Numenera campaign. We can’t wait to get it into your hands!

A quick look at some VotD page spreads. These are unproofed.

Speaking of Cool Places!

Do you love great fantasy settings? Are you a fan of Monte’s past work for the world’s most popular fantasy RPG?

Ptolus: Monte Cook's City by the Spire, the classic and much beloved campaign setting, returns for 5e and Cypher System fans. We're reissuing the entire premium product in two versions, one for each of these popular, critically acclaimed game systems.

Explore a sprawling fantasy urban setting, presented in amazing detail and steeped in lore and atmosphere. Delve into the extensive dungeons beneath its streets. And maybe, when you're ready, ascend the spire that looms overhead, the heart of an ancient and restless evil.

Ptolus: Monte Cook's City by the Spire isn't just huge—672 beautiful pages plus hundreds of physical and digital extras—it also set new standards for physical production. From its embossed cover to the multiple bound-in satin bookmarks, everything about Ptolus is premium quality. It's all designed to make things surprisingly easy on the GM—the original Ptolus pioneered many of the features commonly found in MCG products today. And Ptolus comes with roughly 300 pages of additional digital content. It's really an amazing product!

And to top it all off, most backer levels include an entire library of existing titles, including the 3e version of Ptolus itself, in PDF, delivered early so you don't have to wait to start exploring the setting and dreaming up your adventures. Get over $250 worth of products—that's 27 titles totaling 2100 pages. But only if you back the campaign!

Ptolus is coming to Cypher System and 5e. Don’t miss this legendary campaign setting or this exciting Kickstarter!

The First New Rewards Are on Their Way!
over 4 years ago – Fri, Jan 17, 2020 at 12:06:52 AM

Back in November we fulfilled rewards of existing products. Since then we’ve been hard at work not only on the core hardcovers funded by this campaign (for example, Voices of the Datasphere is headed into layout), but also some of the additional rewards you unlocked as stretch goals.

The first of these is the Numenera Character Portfolio. Warning: Once you use this, you’ll never settle for a laser-printed character sheet again! It’s nicely sized for the gaming table, has a more deluxe feel than a character sheet, takes pencil and eraser easily, and gives you loads of room for all your stats, notes, doodles, maps, and so on. And it's so, so pretty! Have a look:

It's so hot off the presses we haven't even had time to write in one yet!

If your rewards include the PDF of the Numenera Character Portfolio, you’ll get two versions of the file: one optimized for printing, and another optimized for using on a tablet or other device, fully form-fillable.

If your rewards include it in print, you’ll get a bundle of five—enough for the whole party, or for all your favorite characters! Plus you’ll get the two PDF versions!

We’ll be fulfilling the Numenera Character Portfolio in the days to come, so keep an eye out for your fulfillment email.

But Wait, There’s More!

The new Numenera playmat is shipping to us now. This is an elegant addition to any RPG game table. Its soft, heavy surface invites your die rolls, and features a vivid image and beautiful graphics. And it gives you useful information and tables around the margins—the sort of info that might normally be found on a GM screen, but which, in the Cypher System, is more useful for the players. It’s large enough to really make a statement (if you’ve seen our previous playmat, it’s almost twice as big), but will still fit nicely on any typical game table.

We will fulfill the playmat next month.

And That’s Not All!

As if that’s not enough, the new Numenera XP Deck is also in transit to us. We’ll have some photos to share in our next update (along with more info on Voices of the Datasphere), but for now, here’s a reminder of the design. This will also fulfill late next month. We can’t wait to start giving out these XP in our own games!

Take Your Cypher System Game into a Classic Fantasy Setting: Announcing Ptolus!

If you’re a fan of Monte’s past work, or just love richly detailed, highly creative fantasy settings, you may be interested in an announcement we’re making today.

We’re bringing Monte’s legendary campaign setting, Ptolus, to the Cypher System, along with the Fifth Edition of the world’s most popular fantasy RPG!

Originally published in 2006 for the d20 System, Ptolus is the massive campaign setting derived from Monte’s personal D&D campaign, played over the course of several years with a veritable who’s who of luminary D&D and d20 designers at the table. It sold out almost instantly, and has held a legendary place in the minds of RPG gamers ever since.

Ptolus: Monte Cook’s City by the Spire will be released in two versions: one for Cypher System, and one for 5e. Each version, like the original, will be a 672-page premium-quality hardcover. And like the original, each will also come with loads of additional content in the form of physical handouts and digital materials, for a total of around 800 pages.

Sign up to be notified of the Kickstarter launch, and read more about Ptolus (including some of Monte’s thoughts on revisiting this seminal setting) in this announcement at the MCG website.

How Would You Like a Datasphere Deck?
over 4 years ago – Tue, Oct 22, 2019 at 01:10:15 AM

As you may recall from the frantic final days of the Numenera: Liminal Shores Kickstarter campaign, we wanted to make the Datasphere Deck, a tool for quickly and easily building adventures and encounters as you explore the datasphere. It was our final stretch goal, but the campaign reached its end before we unlocked it. As a reminder, here’s a quick look at what we had in mind for the Datasphere Deck:

Well, we’ve been thinking about how cool it would be to launch the Datasphere Deck, maybe around the same time as Voices of the Datasphere. While we didn’t unlock it during the Kickstarter, maybe we can do it in BackerKit. So here’s the deal: BackerKit is currently at a little over $30,000 in late pledges and add-ons. If we can get to $45,000 by the time BackerKit closes at the end of next week, we’ll make the Datasphere Deck.

If you’ve pledged at ONTO LIMINAL SHORES or above, the deck—in print and PDF—will be added to your rewards for free. (If you’ve backed at INTO THE DATASPHERE, you’ll get it in PDF.) That's right: even though the campaign is over, your deal can still get even better!

Most backers have already filled out BackerKit, so how can you help us reach this goal? Three ways:

  • If you didn’t back at ONTO LIMINAL SHORES—perhaps you’re just doing ALL THREE BOOKS—consider upgrading. ONTO LIMINAL SHORES is a fantastic value, and it’ll get even better with the Datasphere Deck. (Backing at NEW TO THE NINTH WORLD? You should totally check out DIVE INTO THE NINTH WORLD.)
  •  Log back into BackerKit and have a look at add-ons. The new Numenera playmat, in particular, is going to be a sweet addition to any game table.
  •  But the number one thing, as always, is to help us spread the word. Help new gamers and Numenera fans discover this Kickstarter campaign. We could probably hit this stretch goal if just a few dozen or so new backers place late pledges—and you can help make that happen!

That last one is key. It’s new backers that really drive the numbers up. Here are some easy ways to help spread the word about this stretch goal:

BackerKit closes on October 31st (credit cards will be charged November 1st). We’ll be putting out the word about this stretch goal, and with your help we think it we can make it. And then we can all look forward to exploring the datasphere with the Datasphere Deck!

Imagine adding a beautiful, super-useful, 100-card deck to all this stuff!
