We’re Making Character Portfolios for You! Now Let’s Talk about TWO Stretch Goals!
over 4 years ago – Sun, Aug 18, 2019 at 06:25:27 PM

You unlocked the Numenera Character Portfolios!

We’re really excited about this item—we know you’re going to love it and get great use out of it. If you’re backing at the INTO THE DATASPHERE level, you’ll get the character portfolio PDF in two versions—one form-fillable and optimized for use on a tablet or other device, right at the game table, and one optimized for printing out. If you’re backing at ONTO LIMINAL SHORES or higher, you’ll get those PDF plus not one, but a bundle of five of the 24-page portfolios in print. Enough for your whole party!

Our Art Director, Bear, received these first-off-the-presses Cypher System Character Portfolios on Friday. They're really cool! The Numenera portfolios will be similar in format and function.

Next Up: A Novella!

We’re going to announce two stretch goals today, because we think they’re both really exciting.

With Tomorrow’s Boneson the cusp of publication, and the recent launch of The Ninth Word website for fan fiction and other contributions, Monte and Shanna have been kicking around a few ideas for some additional fiction pieces. So if we get to $210,000, every backer at INTO THE DATASPHERE and above will get an ebook of the novella Yesterday’s Whispers. Here’s what they have in mind for this story:

Hidden in the deepest, darkest portions of the Westwood lies Dravik Manor, home to a family of wealth and . . .  strange proclivities. Some say they're all quite mad, but Enian and his thuman companion Rax believe there's something more to it than that—Dravik Manor may be built atop a vertice of the datasphere, granting those within access to all manner of secrets.

And After That?

We’ll make a set of cardstock standups that brings dozens of beautifully illustrated Numenera characters and creatures to your game table. As usual, there’ll be a PDF version for backers at the INTO THE DATASPHERE level, while backers at ONTO LIMINAL SHORES and higher will also get it in print. We’ll unlock this goal at $240,000.

The standups will include a mix of Numenera characters and creatures. Which creatures will it include? That hasn’t been decided yet, but we’d love to hear your preferences. Put them in the main comments section on the Kickstarter page!

Free Numenera Fiction!
over 4 years ago – Fri, Aug 16, 2019 at 12:41:57 AM

We’re well into day three of this Kickstarter, and as I write this we’re almost three-quarters of the way toward unlocking the Numenera Character Portfolios. That’s our third stretch goal, almost in the bag already. What a great opening week we’ve had so far—and thanks to you it’s not over yet!

We’re on track to unlock this stretch goal sometime overnight or tomorrow. In the meantime, we thought you’d like to know about some free Numenera fiction. Yesterday we opened preorders on Tomorrow’s Bones, and you can download and read a free sample right now. Tomorrow’s Bones will be the third official Numenera novel, written by the insanely great Shanna Germain. It’s a fast-paced tale of adventure, discovery, friendship, and piracy on the Ninth World’s high seas.

And don’t forget that Monte has written a three-part story, Reach of Ghosts, that’s posted to The Ninth Word—you can also read that online for free right now. If you like what we’re making through this Liminal Shores Kickstarter campaign, you’ll love Reach of Ghosts.

We hope you enjoy it—and please keep spreading the word. Let’s make those Character Portfolios, and then see what other stretch goals we can unlock!

Voices of the Datasphere Upgraded. Now Let’s Upgrade Your Character!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Aug 14, 2019 at 08:53:12 PM

Thanks to you and your incredible embrace of Liminal Shores, I’m writing this update hours earlier than I even though possible. But it’s happened—you’ve unlocked the upgrade to Voices of the Datasphere already, so it’s time to talk about another stretch goal!

But first, for backers who just joined us today: Last night we unlocked Vertices, an entire new book. Now we’ve upgraded Voices of the Datasphere with 32 additional pages featuring new locations, more denizens of the datasphere, and some insights into the Clock of Kala, one of the largest, most mysterious prior-world structures in the Ninth World.

Every backer getting Voices of the Datasphere in PDF or print (and that’s pretty much everyone) will enjoy this upgrade. And Vertices is now part of the INTO THE DATASPHERE reward level (in PDF), and ONTO LIMINAL SHORES and higher levels (in print and PDF).

Character Portfolios

Our next stretch goal: character portfolios! Keep track of your pools, abilities, skills, cyphers, and everything else on a typical character sheet—but this also gives you pages of room for notes, sketches, and details on your abilities, cyphers, and artifacts. Jot down thoughts about your character’s appearance, mannerisms, connections to the other PCs, and the people, creatures, objects, and locations you meet in your adventures. The portfolio will be perfectly sized to give you plenty of space within, but without taking up too much space on the gaming table.

And you don’t just get one—you get a set of five. Enough for the whole party!

A few years back we made character portfolios for Numenera (you can still get them, in fact), and if you’ve ever used them, you know there’s no going back to regular character sheets. These new portfolios will be very similar, but updated to match the current Numenera character sheet, and to incorporate improvements and insights we’ve gained since publishing the new Player Notebook and the forthcoming Cypher System character portfolio.

Backers at the INTO THE DATASPHERE level will get the portfolio added to their rewards in two PDF versions: one optimized for print, and the other form-fillable and optimized for use on your tablet or other device. Backers at the ONTO LIMINAL SHORES and higher levels will get those PDFs, plus a set of five portfolios in print! We’ll do this if we make it to $190,000.

Please Keep Telling the World!

Please tweet, post, and share news about this campaign. There are literally thousands of Numenera fans who aren’t yet aware of this Kickstarter, and we need your help to reach them (and thereby unlock more stetch goals!). Here are a couple of items to retweet or share, or as inspiration for your own posts:

  •  Share this post, which shows off the incredible cover art for Edge of the Sun!

Vertices Unlocked!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Aug 14, 2019 at 01:38:14 AM

Can you believe we’re less than 24 hours into this Kickstarter campaign, and we’ve already unlocked a whole new book?

Vertices gives you new locations to explore and adventures to experience as you discover places within the Ninth World that access the datasphere. Plus new Ninth World locales revealed through your explorations of the datasphere. It is now automagically added in PDF to the INTO THE DATASPHERE level, and in print and PDF to the ONTO LIMINAL SHORES and higher levels.

Let’s Upgrade Voices of the Datasphere

Voices of the Datasphere is already a hefty hardcover, and will be chock full of great information on the datasphere. Let’s explore deeper and further into the datasphere by adding 32 pages to the book. We'll add more datasphere inhabitants and a brand-new vertice that gives some insights into the Clock of Kala.

(If you’re not super-familiar with the Ninth World, the Clock of Kala is the massive, bizarrely circular mountain range that bounds the northwest corner of the Beyond. Hundreds of miles across, impossibly high, and broken only by the Sheer—a relatively narrow passage that seems artificially cut through the 30,000-foot-tall mountains—the Clock of Kala is clearly a prior-world work of astounding scale.)

Many have wondered at the Clock of Kala’s secrets. Now this stretch goal will unlock at least a few of them.

We will expand and upgrade Voices of the Datasphere with this new content if we make it to $150,000. Every backer who gets Voices of the Datasphere, in print or PDF, will enjoy this upgrade!

Can We Keep It Up?

This Kickstarter campaign had an astounding first day thanks to you. Can we keep up this incredible pace, to unlock this stretch goal—and, perhaps, many more—in the days and weeks to come? Only with your help!

Please tweet, post, and share news about this campaign. There are literally tens of thousands of gamers who have not yet heard of the Ninth World. Let’s get them on board! Here are a couple of items for inspiration, or to retweet, or share:

  • Share this post, which shows off the incredible cover art for Edge of the Sun!
  • And maybe retweet this link to the article on the MCG website about Voices of the Datasphere.
