Let’s Make This Cool and Useful Playmat
over 4 years ago – Sat, Aug 31, 2019 at 08:01:06 PM

Wow! What a great past few days it's been. As we rocket toward our next stretch goal, we have something more we want to share with you.

Several years ago, we introduced a playmat for Numenera. The thinking was that because Numenera doesn’t have as many tables and charts as a lot of games, the GM doesn’t roll any dice, and the game’s narrative approach discourages having a wall—physical or metaphorical—between the players and the GM, a playmat would be a good alternative to the conventional GM screen.

Fans apparently agreed with us, because they loved our Numenera playmat. In fact, it has been completely sold out for some time. Here at MCG we use the heck out of ours, and they’re a favorite of con GMs and members of our Asset Team as well.

So we’re going to make this:

This is a new and improved Numenera playmat.

As you can see, the playmat will be stunning to look at, and it’ll be a beautiful centerpiece on your Numenera gaming table. But it’s also practical: along the edges there’s reference info of interest to the GM and the players—things like damage track and special roll result info, task difficulty and damage from hazards tables for the GM, distance definitions, armor and weapon damage info, and other things players and GMs sometimes look up during play. It’s all there in front of you so that you can focus on your story, not on flipping through the book.

And the fabric surface, with a rubberized backing, makes a great die rolling surface. The playmat will be roughly 24” x 32”—large enough to make the most of its striking artwork and information, but not too big for modestly sized gaming tables. (If you’re familiar with the original Numenera playmat, this one will be nearly twice that size.)

This is not a stretch goal. This is something we want to make, and something we think you’ll really love to have. So to celebrate an incredible first half of this campaign, we’re just going to do it! We’re going to make it, and you can get it as an add-on.

Speaking of add-ons, we’ve had a lot of requests to make some of our existing titles available through this campaign. You can get any of the many great Numenera supplements already in print from the MCG Shop right now (and you won’t have to wait for this campaign to end, BackerKit to run its course, etc.). But some backers find it more convenient to get existing titles as add-ons through the campaign, so we’re offering several bundles of existing products. They’re great enhancements to your Numenera game, and the bundles are a great deal as well!

Check out the add-ons graphic on the main Kickstarter page for all the details on these bundles and the beautiful Numenera playmat!

The original Numenera playmat, now out of print, in action. The new one will be roughly twice as big and contain even more useful information.

Here’s Something We Hope You Think Is Cool!
over 4 years ago – Thu, Aug 29, 2019 at 11:55:50 PM

That's the Numenera Deck Box. It’s something we funded in the Numenera 2: Discovery and Destiny Kickstarter campaign, and it will be out in October. (Side note: the stretch goal for this box was hit in literally the final hour of that campaign—which just goes to show how a campaign can continue to unlock awesome stretch goals up to the very last minute!)

Would you like one? How about a copy of every Numenera deck published to date, to fill it up? (That’s three creature decks, two cypher decks, the Artifact Deck, the Intrusion Deck, the Ruin Deck, the Asset Deck, the Weird Deck, and more!) And maybe even a copy of the deluxe Numenera corebook set? You could win all of these, and help this campaign hit more stretch goals along the way!

It’s easy to enter the contest—you just need to help spread the word a bit about this Kickstarter campaign. There are ten ways to enter, and the more you do, the better your chances. You can find all the details here.

An AMA with Monte and the Design Team

Got questions about the Ninth World? Is there anything you’ve ever wanted to ask Monte (or anyone on the MCG design team) about Numenera—or anything else? We’re holding an AMA live by video next week, and you’re invited! Join us on the MCG Twitch channel Thursday, September 5th, at 7 p.m. EDT to talk to Monte and the design team live!

Yesterday’s Whispers Novella Funded—Next It’s Standups!
over 4 years ago – Fri, Aug 23, 2019 at 09:43:34 PM

Yes! You’ve done it: you’ve knocked out yet another stretch goal. The novella Yesterday’s Whispers will be written. If you’re backing at INTO THE DATASPHERE, or at ONTO LIMINAL SHORES or higher, we’re adding Yesterday’s Whispers, in PDF and all popular ebook formats, to your rewards. Thanks for making it happen!

(Looking for some Numenera fiction right now? The Ninth Word is a great site for fans to share their stories. (Inspired? Feel free to post something there yourself!) There’s also the free, three-part short story The Reach of Ghosts by Monte there, or you can check out the official Numenera novels.)

Standups!

Our next stretch goal is really cool.

We want to make a set of full-color cardstock standups of Ninth World characters, creatures, and NPCs. These will be scaled to 28mm, and will include dozens of figures. And they’ll come with plastic bases. The print version will be beautiful and sturdy, and the PDF will let you print additional copies of the sheets—as many as you need!

Perhaps you enjoy using minis and maps for your RPG sessions. Or maybe your style is more “theatre of the mind”—but you still find it handy to have a visual representation of the characters and creatures involved in the scene. Either way, these will be a fantastic addition to your game.

At $240,000 we’ll unlock these standups. Every backer at the INTO THE DATASPHERE level will get them, automatically and for free, in PDF. Every backer at ONTO LIMINAL SHORES and above will get them in print (with the plastic bases) and in PDF.

Glimmer Burst

The datasphere is active! A glimmer burst is underway. If you haven’t already, check out the last update, and claim the rewards the datasphere offers. But hurry—this backer exclusive won’t last long!

The Ninth World Needs You!

Every dollar that funds this campaign and propels it toward stretch goals comes from backers, and every backer, at one point, was a new backer. To unlock the standups, and then move on to more stretch goals—book upgrades, maybe new titles, and other cool items—we need to reach new backers. Most new backers hear about Kickstarters from their friends. This campaign needs your engagement if you want to keep adding new stretch goals to your rewards.

Won’t you take a minute to share news about this campaign? Tell people you know—in person or by social media—why you like this campaign. If you can’t think of the right words, check out these items for inspiration—or feel free to simply share or retweet them!
